Lots of talent disappeared off this team with very little in return.

At the end of the day its all about the money. I get he wasn't going to give Gilmore the money he probably deserved but damn man trade him earlier and get something for him!

Cannot understand a #6... should be a much higher pick, makes no sense especially into the season after the FAs and draft, it is very difficult to improve your team.

CBs are a premium position in the NFL, hard to replace, an injury to your top CB is devastating, wtf is BB doing?

3. A 6th round pick is the best offer they received for him.

The market sets the value on what a player is currently worth. As of now, the League thinks he's worth no more than a 6th.

Great coach BUT he may it owe all to having Brady luckily land on his lap in the draft and when Jet LB Mo Lewis KO-ing Bledsoe into injury to discover him.

Indeed. His age 31 and contract that many teams didn't want to take onto their cap too.

He's a 31 year old man coverage corner (skillset tends to diminish faster) off a torn quad that wants a new contract. Not gonna be many suitors for that. A lot of teams don't even have the cap at this time of year.

However, yes, they should've dealt him in March 2020 after his DPOY season and you could've gotten a 2nd for him probably. In the past, I think that is a move BB is quick to make. However, let's face it, they didn't wanna go 4-12 in Brady's 1st season away from the team so they made a lot of moves that season that had no value in helping them long-term (Franchising Thuney, bringing other vets back, wasting a year on old Cam when you could've atleast slung some mud and given another young guy a shot)...Maybe weren't feeling the PR hit of him and TB leaving within the span of 2 weeks either.

As far as Gilmore himself goes, corners that play his style go from sugar to shit pretty fast but it is so tough to play corner in the NFL now that I'm sure someone will give him a decent deal this offseason.

Recently, no, not really. Especially drafting.

But to sum his career up as a GM as "isnt that great" is pretty crazy. Although I think you were just trying to say he isn't infallible with a golden Midas Touch rather than dismiss his career.

He has done some very sharp things over the years. He understood teams were paying guys in that age 29-32 range based on past performance and you had to be cutthroat on when to get rid of them rather than pay them for their next deal. Early in his run, he realized teams weren't valuing 3-4 defenders as much as 4-3 guys so he switched the D to 3-4 and built the defense off that. Later on, he realized TE's, slot WR's, receiving back specialists were undervalued compared to WR's/RB's which helped build the 2nd stage of the run. You could go on and on. He also signed the subject of this thread, Stephon Gilmore, who ended up being 1 of the best free agency since the NFL went to the salary cap era.

This shit is hard though, that is the main thing I'd try to tell people and what I'd say in the TB/BB thread. To constantly find edges like that and to constantly identify talent better than 31 other teams that have the same financial resources as you is damn hard. Look at Seattle, they reeled off 4 all-world caliber defensive guys in like 3 years and I'm not even sure they've drafted 1 pro bowl caliber guy since. Examples are endless. The game of football and football management is filled with volatility and variance.
